Appliance & Equipment Efficiency Standards:
Opportunities for States in 2006

ASAP and ACEEE's March 2006 report, Leading the Way: Continued Opportunities for New State Appliance and Equipment Efficiency Standards, shows how states have led the nation to improved energy efficiency and identifies additional products for which new state energy-saving standards make sense. This report updates our 2005 report of the same title and previous reports which helped provide a technical foundation for previous standards set by states, many of which Congress adopted nationally in August 2005. This update goes beyond the recently enacted national standards, providing the technical information and impact analysis needed for states interested in saving more energy with new product standards. The report reviews the history and benefits of state and federal standards, currently existing standards at the state and federal level and recommends specific new standards. For each newly recommended standard, the report provides detailed information on the product, market and the specifc technical standard. We provide state-by-state and national impact data.
